The traditional shaker art of broom making is alive and well and we invite you to enjoy a hand tied broomcorn broom from our Wisconsin studio. This broom is hand-tied on a solid Black Walnut broomstick that we also make from local hardwood in our shop. This broom features a stick that was planed round using a hand plane in our studio. The natural beauty of the handmade Walnut stick is brought out with multiple coats of Tung oil finish on the broomstick. Hand tying of the broom is finished by hand-plaiting, or weaving, the broomcorn onto the broomstick with tarred twine; the broom is then stitched flat with hemp twine....no metal wire in these brooms.
